Can a coil malfunction a cdi ignition on a suzuki gs500?

My Suzuki gs500 1990 cdi ignition box keeps breaking, I'm not sure if i just got a bad replacement or what, but the same wire blew out, so I'm doubting it. Can a bad coil blow out a ignition box?
Ok, so I check out the ignition box and it gives

Sure it can, but most likely you have a ground problem. IF you don't have a very good volt meter and know how to use it, you might want to consider taking it to a shop.

IN the mean time, why not trace out your electrical wiring.
