I am going to have an older (early 80's)diesel engine rebuilt, what parts/work should I specifically ask for?
What should I look for in an honest mechanic, and what are some warning signs?
Also, how do I know this shop will have done what I've paid them to do?

You know, my feeling is that when you tear an engine apart yourself, it's easier to rationalize cutting a few corners.
But labor being what it is, I generally don't believe in cutting corners to save a few bucks on parts. If in doubt replace
